Set Up Your Mares Sidemount Wing System with Confidence —

Discover Freedom, Comfort, and Control Beneath the Surface!

Sidemount diving is no longer just for cave or technical divers — it’s becoming the system of choice for recreational divers who want better balance, freedom of movement, and streamlined diving comfort. With the Mares Sidemount Wing System and Rigging Set, setting up your sidemount gear is simple, fast, and intuitive — even if you’re new to the configuration.

Whether you want to reduce back strain, improve trim, or simply enjoy the flexibility of sidemount diving, the Mares system makes the switch smooth and satisfying.

Why Choose Sidemount with Mares?

Unbeatable Streamlining & Balance
Sidemount systems offer an unmatched feeling of weightlessness and trim. Your tanks are comfortably tucked along your sides, giving you more freedom of movement and reducing drag — perfect for reef cruising, wreck exploration, or tight swim-throughs.

Improved Safety & Flexibility
With independent gas sources and easy access to all valves, sidemount increases safety and lets you adapt quickly to different environments — whether diving shallow reefs or deep technical sites.

Comfort for All Body Types
No more heavy tanks on your back or struggling to gear up on the boat. Sidemount setups distribute weight evenly and are easier to don, especially for divers with back or shoulder concerns.

Simple Steps to Set Up Your Mares Sidemount Wing Using the Mares Rigging Set:

  1. Attach the Wing to the Harness:
The Mares Sidemount Wing is designed to connect directly to the harness system using supplied bolts or fasteners. Position the wing properly to provide balanced lift along your torso and keep you in horizontal trim.

  2. Thread and Adjust the Harness Webbing:
Use the Mares Rigging Set’s tough, reliable webbing to form the shoulders, waist, and crotch straps. Adjust the length carefully — the system should fit snugly but not restrict breathing or movement. A crotch strap prevents the wing from riding up during the dive.

  3. Mount the D-Rings:
Install stainless steel D-rings in strategic positions — two on the chest for attaching bungees or accessories, and two on the hips or upper thighs for clipping off your cylinders. The Mares Rigging Set includes pre-formed D-rings and stoppers to hold everything securely in place.

  4. Set Up Cylinder Bungees:
Attach the Mares bungees to the upper rear of the harness. These will hold your sidemount tanks snugly against your body. Adjust the length so the cylinders stay streamlined along your sides without pulling too tightly.

  5. Install Butt Plate or Lower Tank Clips:
Use the lower D-rings or optional butt plate to attach your cylinder tail clips. These connection points help secure the base of each cylinder to your body and prevent swinging during the dive.

  6. Fine-Tune the Fit:
Wear the system with empty tanks to test fit and trim. Adjust the bungees, strap lengths, and D-ring positions for personal comfort and proper cylinder positioning. Your rig should feel balanced, secure, and effortless.
