Setup single hard mount backplate
Set Up Your Single Hard Mount Backplate with Ease —
Dive Confidently, Dive Comfortably!
As any experienced diver will tell you, comfort, control, and stability in the water begin with the right gear setup. A well-fitted backplate and wing system forms the heart of every streamlined diving rig — giving you superb trim, excellent buoyancy control, and a truly custom fit.
For many divers new to technical or advanced recreational setups, the idea of configuring a single hard mount backplate might sound complicated — but in truth, it’s simple, satisfying, and offers unmatched performance in the water.
With just a few easy steps, you can set up your own single tank backplate and wing system — and unlock a world of underwater freedom, balance, and confidence.
Why Choose a Single Hard Mount Backplate?
✔ Maximum Stability & Streamlining
A hard backplate forms a solid, secure platform against your back, giving you better weight distribution and a snug, no-shift fit. Whether you’re gliding over a reef or exploring a wreck, your tank stays perfectly in place — reducing drag and effort on every dive.
✔ Fully Customisable Fit
Unlike jacket-style BCDs, a backplate and wing system lets you adjust every strap, buckle, and D-ring to match your exact body size, dive style, and preferences. Your setup becomes a natural extension of you — improving comfort, control, and buoyancy.
✔ Simplicity & Durability
With fewer parts to fail, no bulky padding to trap water, and durable materials like stainless steel or aluminium, hard backplates are built to last — whether you're diving local sites or far-off oceans.
Simple Steps to Set Up Your Single Hard Mount Backplate:
-
Thread the Harness Webbing:
Start by feeding a length of nylon webbing through the slots in the backplate. This creates your shoulder straps and waistband. Most divers use continuous webbing for strength and simplicity. Follow the slot pattern so the webbing lays flat and comfortable on your shoulders. -
Add D-Rings and Retainers:
Position stainless steel or aluminium D-rings on the harness at chest level (for attaching accessories) and hips (for clipping off gear). Secure them with rubber or metal retainers to keep them from sliding. -
Install the Waist Buckle:
Thread the waist buckle (usually stainless steel) onto the webbing to create your waist strap. Leave enough tail length for easy tightening and releasing. -
Fit the Crotch Strap (Optional but Recommended):
Attach a crotch strap to the bottom of the backplate to prevent the rig from riding up during the dive. This keeps your setup rock solid — especially when diving in currents or wearing thick wetsuits. -
Mount the Wing and Single Tank Adapter:
Secure the wing bladder to the backplate using supplied bolts or straps. Use a single tank adapter (STA) or cam bands to fix your cylinder to the backplate — keeping it tight, stable, and aligned. -
Adjust for Fit and Comfort:
Put the rig on and adjust the straps for a snug but comfortable fit. Your backplate should feel secure against your back, with enough room to breathe deeply and move freely.
