Why Use the Mares Deco Tank Rigging System?
✔ Built for Safety and Reliability
The Mares Deco Rigging System includes high-quality stainless-steel bolt snaps, strong nylon webbing, and secure cylinder bands — ensuring that your deco tank stays fixed, stable, and accessible throughout the dive.
✔ Streamlined for Low Drag and Easy Access
A properly rigged deco tank stays close to your body, reducing drag and allowing for smooth movement through the water. Quick-release clips and clear placement make switching gas or dropping the tank simple and stress-free.
✔ Durable, Lightweight, and Corrosion Resistant
The Mares system is designed to last — standing up to saltwater, rough handling, and countless dives without degrading or breaking. It's a trusted system made for both recreational technical divers and seasoned professionals.
Simple Steps to Set Up Your Mares Deco Tank Rigging System:
-
Gather Your Kit:
You’ll need your Mares Deco Rigging Set, which typically includes:-
Two stainless steel bolt snaps
-
Nylon webbing loop
-
Cylinder bands (often Velcro or cam-style)
-
Optional hose retainers or bungee cords
Plus your decompression cylinder (commonly an aluminium 40 or 80 cu/ft tank).
-
-
Attach the Upper Bolt Snap:
Slide the upper section of the webbing around the cylinder neck — just under the valve. This should be tight enough to prevent slipping but adjustable if needed. Clip the upper bolt snap into this loop, ensuring it hangs naturally when held. -
Position and Secure the Lower Band:
Wrap the lower webbing strap or band securely around the body of the cylinder, approximately one-third up from the bottom. This holds the cylinder close to your body during the dive. The lower bolt snap is attached to this strap. -
Install Hose Retainers (Optional but Recommended):
If using regulators and hoses with your deco tank, secure the hoses neatly along the tank body using elastic retainers or bungees. This prevents hose dangling, reduces snagging risk, and keeps your system neat and streamlined. -
Check Bolt Snap Functionality:
Open and close both bolt snaps several times to ensure smooth operation. These clips should easily attach to the D-rings on your harness or backplate during the dive. -
Final Fit and Balance:
Attach the tank to your harness and test the positioning in shallow water. Make sure the cylinder rides comfortably at your side without excessive movement, allowing easy reach for gas switching or cylinder removal.
